Banana Ice Cream
After being dairy-free for over five years, the one thing I’ve missed the most is delicious ice cream.
When I found this recipe I was so excited that I could finally enjoy a nice cold treat that’s dairy free and nutritious! The best part is you only need one ingredient for banana ice cream, just bananas!
You can also add other fruits such as strawberries or blueberries for more variety or even cacao to make chocolate banana ice cream.
Don’t forget the topping! Have fun with adding even more variety with crushed nuts or seeds on top.
I love how simple banana ice cream is, yet you can change the recipe to make any flavor you want!
How to Make Banana Ice Cream
Ingredients
– 2 Bananas (preferably very ripe)
Banana Ice Cream Directions
1. Peel bananas and cut each banana into small slices
2. Put the banana pieces into your freezer for about 6 hours (I put mine in a glass dish or bowl)
3. Remove the banana pieces from the freezer and put them in a blender or food processor
4. Blend until becomes creamy texture
5. Scoop out and enjoy!
* To add other fruits, place them in the freezer with the bananas, let freeze, put them in the blender with the banana pieces, and presto, you have another flavor of banana ice cream.
Have you tried banana ice cream?
Can this be made ahead of time and frozen, or must it be made immediately before serving? I am serving this at my daughter’s 1st birthday party. 🙂
Yes it can be made ahead of time. It is so flexible. So Freeze the bananas, blend them and then freeze the blended banana again. I made mine ahead of time and then froze it into containers. So if you have little colorful containers, you can freeze it in there. Just bring it out about 15 minutes before use. Since it does soften quite quickly.
You can make it ahead of time and freeze it, but you will need time for it to soften up after you take it out of the freezer, maybe 1/2 hour.
We have enjoyed this simple yet delicious ice cream for almost thirty years. I started making it when my kids were toddlers, and we still make it. That’s a lot of bananas over the years!
Thanks for sharing! It really is delicious 🙂
Yes Yes Yes…. I have tried this. I am keen on cooking and wanted to create an all Nigerian Dinner for my guests. Starter and Main menu were fine, but when it came to dessert I really struggled… since I only had the option of fruit salad with tropical fruits. And I did not want to go the cake way. So on doing a search I came across the recipe for Banana Ice Cream and it was a huge huge success. I think I also added coconut cream in another attempt. It is just amazing how really really simple life can be.
Where did it all go wrong that a tub of supermarket ice cream has all the E’s in the world and yet we could simply do the Banana Ice Cream method ?
Anyway, it is great and I am so grateful to finding it.
Exactly! So glad they enjoyed it! It is a great treat and so simple to make!
