I’ve always had hooded eyelids and recently began trying to find a natural remedy to change the appearance of it. I actually came up with the idea of trying egg whites as a natural remedy for drooping eyelids after I used an egg white facial mask. I’m so glad I tried using it for my eyelids because it really changed how my eyelids look!
You won’t believe how easy it is to use this natural remedy for drooping eyelids and hooded eyelids! And I can’t believe there is no information on this online! And all you need is an Egg! I’m so excited that my experiment worked. Plus, it’s inexpensive and all natural!
Those are my before and after pictures of using this egg white natural remedy for drooping eyelids. I took the pictures within minutes of each other because that’s how fast it works when you apply egg white to your eyelid.
Update: I put up this post with this natural remedy over 7 years ago and since then, I have received thousands of comments and emails from people who found this remedy to work for them too!
How I Came Up with this Egg White Natural Remedy for Drooping Eyelids
My mom has been mentioning recently that she wanted to do something about her drooping eyelids. So, over the past few days I started researching natural remedies for drooping eyelids and surprising I couldn’t find anything! Then I started thinking about what could possibly help. Using an egg white for drooping eyelids was my first thought. I usually do an egg white facial once a week and I know how it tightens your skin and removes the appearance of wrinkles. Surprisingly, there was no information on using an egg white for drooping eyelids, so I had to experiment with it myself.
So, I used the egg white on my eyelids just like I do on my face. I applied a little bit to my upper eyelids, let it dry then looked in the mirror to see if it worked. I applied it a few times, trying it a little lower and a little higher on my eyelid to get it in just the right spot. After 3 tries, I looked in the mirror and wow, it really worked!
The egg white tightened my skin above my eyelid and changed how my eyelid fell. Now, as you can see in my picture above, you can actually see my upper eyelid instead of it being covered by excess skin. I’m so happy with how this natural remedy for drooping eyelids worked. I’m so excited to be able to wear eye shadow now and have it be visible. My hooded eyelids always made eye shadow invisible because the excess skin would cover it.
Improving the Look of Your Eyelids
Many want to improve the appearance of drooping eyelids and hooded eyelids. Drooping eyelids are associated with appearing tired and older. Some feel that improving their drooping eyelids will improve their self-confidence, physical appearance, and make them feel more attractive.
The weight from a drooping eyelid may also tire the muscles of the eye and cause fatigue.
When you have drooping eyelids or hooded eyes you may also have more difficulty applying makeup. Since having drooping eyelids or hooded eyes may make the eyelid itself not visible under the excess skin, eyeliner or eye shadow applied may not be visible. This is one reason I wanted to find a natural remedy for drooping eyelids because I could never really wear eye shadow.
What’s the Difference Between Drooping Eyelids, Sagging Eyelids and Hooded Eyes?
This is something I was curious about when I first started reading up on remedies for drooping eyelids. Before I knew the difference, I thought my eyelids would be classified as drooping eyelids, but actually, I have hooded eyes.
Hooded Eyes is just a term used to refer to those who have the physical characteristic of the skin above the eye slightly protruding over the natural crease of the eyelid. When you have hooded eyes, generally the eyelids are partially covered by the skin when your eyes are open, slightly hiding the eyelid itself. Having hooded eyes is actually very common, a few public figures that I can think of are Blake Lively and Renee Zellweger. Hooded eyelids aren’t necessarily something that needs a remedy, they are often viewed as alluring and beautiful.
Drooping Eyelids or Sagging Eyelids are not something you’re born with, instead it occurs over time and is most commonly associated with aging and the loss of skin elasticity. They may stay constant or progressively worsen over time. Drooping eyelids is very common for both men and women.
What Causes it?
Most commonly, drooping eyelids is the result of aging causing a loss of skin elasticity around the eye. The tissue loses its firmness and the ability to hold back the increased weight of the eyelid skin tissue. Other possible causes have been said to be thyroid dysfunction, fatigue, smoking, and increased oxidative stress.
Other Treatments Used:
There aren’t many great solutions or remedies for drooping eyelids. The primary options include upper eyelid cosmetic surgery (blepharoplasty), injections of chemical fillers, or thermage.
One much less invasive option I’ve come across is using eyelid tape. It’s pretty inexpensive and you just apply a piece of tape to your eyelid to hold it in a new position.
My Natural Remedy for Drooping Eyelids or Hooded Eyes
For this natural remedy for drooping eyelids, all you’re going to need is one egg! Nice and simple right? We’re just going to use the egg white part of the egg.
Egg whites naturally tighten and firm your skin when applied. The egg white will dry in less than a minute on your skin and the tightening effect changes how your eyelid falls. This helps pull in the extra skin so it does not hang over your eyelid.
When you apply egg white to your eyelid and let it dry, you will see results in a few minutes and the results have lasted me almost two days from application. I was very surprised!
The result only lasts while you have the egg white applied to your eyelid. Washing it off will make it not effective. However, when I apply it every day it seems to help “train” my eyelid to fall in the new placement and the result may be longer lasting.
Steps For Egg White Remedy for Drooping Eyelids and Hooded Eyelids
1. Make sure your eyelid doesn’t have any makeup and is dry.
2. Crack open an egg and remove the yolk, all you’re going to need is the egg white.
3. Hold your eyelid closed and dip a cotton swab into the egg white.
4. Rub the cotton swab across the crease of your eyelid (it should not drip at all, you don’t need much).
5. Keep holding your eyelid closed and wait for the egg white to dry or you could sit in front of a fan to speed up the time.
That’s it! You may have to reapply it a little higher or a little lower if you didn’t get the result on the first try. For both my mom and I, we had to put it on 2 or 3 times to get it in the perfect spot. Once we figured out where to put it, it came out great!

Ok so I found this really helpful, thanks. I was wondering if you have any other suggestions for hooded eyes? These are working amazing, but only work when it is on. Do you know if anything else works that doesn’t need to be on the area for it to work? Sorry if it doesn’t make sense 🙂
Sophia
So I’m wondering… does this only work when it is on? Or do I do it a couple of times and then the progress will show after a few days? I’m thinking about doing this because I have hooded eyes but I am a little confused.I hope you can explain this, thanks 😊😊
Lori
It only works while it is on.
Meriweather
so we need to pur it everyday? or it will work after using this many times?
Lori
Yes, you have to apply it each day for it to work.

thank you so much!!! I’ll try this amazing experiment

I was so excited to hear about this, I tried it tonight and something strange happened. I hope you can explain this. I put the egg white on while sitting at my vanity table. Everything was remarkably good! Lines underneath my eyes disappeared and I had eyelids again – even the crows feet were gone. It was great. Then I stood up and walked into my bathroom and my beautiful smooth skin seemed to gather and pucker – both above and underneath my eyes. I washed it off immediately and everything went back to the way it was before, but I don’t understand . What did I do wrong? I did use more than one coat – was that the problem?
Lori
Hmm.. maybe try using one coat to see if that helps.

I read a good portion of the posts to and from your readers. You say that you leave the egg white on the eyes, for up to two days to maintain the look, however you wash off after 20 min. when you use it on your face. The reason being that it will peel. Would the same not be true for the eyelid. Dosen’t it look crispy under makeup or look like it will peel??
Lori
I mainly wash it off of my face after 20 to 30 minutes because I was worried if I leave it on too long it may clog my pores. I have acne prone skin. It doesn’t look crispy on my eyelids. If there is any white residue, I just gentle pat it off with a dry towel without ruining the effect.
joana isabel
is it permanent may i ask
Lori
It only works while it’s on.

Hi Lori,
I’m turning 20 in this November and I’m totally unaware how I got hooded eyes. (Maybe I’m sleep deprived)
I have got caught up in a busy routine & I wear make up almost everyday. So, If I stay with an egg white for more more than 9 – 10 & hours if it get’s contaminated with my eyes there could be a higher risk of getting salmonella.
Can’t I substitute egg white remedy into pure natural aloe vera gel? Does aloe vera has similar effects to egg white?
Will there be an improvement with my hodded eyes? (I mean for temporary and permanent improvement? )
I look horrible with Bunny lines, hodded eyes and widened pores around my cheeks.
Are there are any natural remedies would you recommend me cure the above problems?
Thanks for posting this article.
Looking forward for a favourable reply.
Sandy
Lori
Yea, you can try aloe vera 🙂
Rob
I tried this and yes it does work but now I have a huge wrinkle above my eye.Maybe my hooded eye is more severe than others.
Lori
Glad it worked. You can try placing it a little higher or lower so it doesn’t cause a wrinkle.
Mewi
Is there a substitute that works similar, a more vegan way?
Lori
Hmm..I’m not sure. Do they make an egg white replacement that may work?

I was literally pondering this as an answer for my eyelid elasticity and drooping lid issue last night. I was actually trying to put together an entire all natural skin care regimen to go with my shift to paleo, doctors orders, and getting off meds and going holistic. I’ve learned so much this last year since I’ve been laid up in bed. I have friends who all see pictures of me and say I want to know the secret to your complexion it’s flawless. Um, no. Nobody has seen me in person in a decade that I used to be close to. My new family is awesome, got married 5 years ago, and don’t care if I age or not just so long as I keep loving my hubby which is a no brainer. I just tell the friends, good diet from mom growing up, good genetics from mom and dad, and no sun, very little more on my face than washing in the shower with jergens original formula, smelled ever so slightly of cherries and knowing about cherries benefit for skin today I think that and the fact that jerseys was so mild saved me. And I’d randomly go through cold cream phases and clinique cream phases. I actually can’t use creams, my skin refuses to absorb. I was delighted to find the brand Merlot. Grape seed extract based, super clean skin products. My skin sucks that up and is instantly soft. The body cream goes on and I can feel my skin firming. Their body wash has no soap. So wonderful. Can’t wait for money to replace. But I want to eventually have my own total body skin treatment. I’m almost 44 and I have fibro. My eyes get the worst. Though when I get inflammation to point my shoes don’t fit and hands can’t close, it’s not fun. I’ve experienced a lot of legit samples of organic vegan gluten free non allergen and non comedogenic makeup and skin care items. Having my eyes not swell when wearing makeup is awesome. But not having them burn and swell when I put on after removing makeup skin care is the bomb. But I research the cost and it’s outrageous even if I weren’t disabled. My eyes are the biggest issue because, like you, I haven’t been able to find anything to treat the upper eye. There are two products at sephora, 150.00 dollars each. Ridiculous. The one skin care item I got to sample over ten days and removed creases and discoloration and brightened and renewed my skin was Caudalie Premier Cru the Elixer. But it’s a hundred bucks. Nope. So I’ve been researching and planning. Foods, oils, herbs, flowers, teas, and other various items to put together the best total body skin healing program. Figured if it worked I’d give it to friends as gifts since they’ve harassed me since I was a teen. I’m so thrilled to know the egg white works. My thinking was exactly yours. Except I wondered about including the yolk since I read the yolk has the majority of the major benefits. I was thinking mask for that. And apparently the lining of the egg shell is the most potent skin treatment of the whole egg. But how to get it of the shell and on the eyes and face. I thought either grind to dust and add to masks or just the egg whites? Any thoughts on that? I’m going to try the egg white on my eyes and face. Stuck in bed again with a bad tooth and worst dentists. So I just Crack the egg, brush or use my finger to get it on the crease, let it dry and leave it on for indefinitely? Can I put it higher and lower. My lids are super loose. I’m trying to start a way to make money by doing makeup for small wedding or prom events and for retro picture shoots. Enough I can do with what I use to function when I need to but not over do it. I’m self teaching, thankfully, with regular advice and instructions from licensed and working pros. But I can’t do much until I have money so I figured I’d focus on what’s in my kitchen. When I try to line my eyes, it’s way to difficult. They need firming, as do the corners. No lines just loose. Then above the crease between fibro swelling and allergies (Texas is an evil state when it comes to allergies, you live here, you get them, it’s nuts) my entire eye above the crease is always swollen and drooping on my lid. I’m trying to figure out what natural product I can put on it that will make it drain or literally pull it out through my pores. The pressure hurts my eyes and triggers my migraine syndrome. I figure if I can make the skin tighten I might see some change. I already use cucumbers and peppermint. Help would be loved. As I experiment I’ll pass success stories along so you can help others. I just found you so I need to browse the site so I don’t repeat something in my little mad scientist kitchen antics. I’ve signed up for your newsletter and followed you on facebook. Thanks for working so hard and sharing so much.
Kelly
Less makeup and other chemicals on your skin will help your fibro go away.

Can this be permanent?
Lori
It works while it’s on. But, you can reapply as much as you want. Once a day or once every 2 days should be good.
Nina
Hello! I am 16 now, and I don’t know when or why but my eyes got really hooded out of nowhere, causing my face to look terrible with my eyebrows down (raising them tightened the skin so I looked about 10 times better). My self esteem has been 0 ever since I turned 16 and has been ruining my life slowly. I’m so excited to try this, since all other advice are surgeries which I can’t do right now. If this really works, I’ll be forever thankful.
Lori
Hope it works for you Nina!
AJ
Looking forward to trying it! My right eyelid hangs a little lower than the left so I’ve been looking for a natural remedy. I can’t believe how people ask you the same thing 100 times without reading the comments lol!
Lori
Let us know how it works for you
Kim
Lori! This is a great idea! And I must say, you are SO patient with repeating your experience over and over again. :o) I have tried it once and it seemed to help.
Thank YOU for this great home remedy!
Lori
Thank you Kim 🙂 Glad it helped you too!
molly
how long does it last for??
Lori
A day or 2 days.
Melanie
I was going to ask the same question as Nancy.. Do you store the rest of the egg white in fridge in container or do you need to use a new egg everyday??
Lori
I store it in the fridge for a few days.
Nancy
Can you store the egg white to use until gone or do you have to use a fresh egg everyday?
Lori
You can store it in the fridge.
Pepper Dasnee
awesome! thanks for sharing 🙂
Phoebe
HI, It works for me but leave the white part on my eyelid even I put some make up on it. Do you have any ideas?
Lori
I just wipe off any white residue with a dry washcloth. Do it very gently.
Sheran
Hey!! I really like the idea of egg white for sagging eyes. I would like to try this out but I’m not sure if there’s any side effects and how many times in a week should I apply this.
Lori
You can apply it as much as you would like. It lasts one whole day for me. It only works while it’s on so if you wash it off at night, you can reapply it in the morning.
Choyce Mauricio
Hi! I have a question does this work in reverse? I mean at the above photo the first one is my normal and the photo below it is my swollen eye.
Lori
I’m not sure. Let us know if you give it a try.
Adrienne
I cannot thank you enough for sharing this! I just tried and it is a miracle worker. I’m getting married later this year, I was 35 when we started dating, he was 24 (yikes!), but here we are getting married 7 years later… Anyhow, needless to say this little trick will certainly give me a little confidence boost walking down the aisle! Sincerely, one very happy soon to be bride!
Lori
I’m so glad it worked for you! Congratulations! Hope you have a wonderful wedding! 🙂

My eyes are naturally monolid. I use Eyelid glue to get double eyelid but I realized after using it so many times, my eyelid became saggy. Would this remedy help? Can I still use the glue to wear makeup again?
Lori
For me, it takes the place of using the glue/tape. So you wouldn’t need to use them together. Let us know if you give it a try.
Suzy
Hey! Does it smell bad if you have it on from morning to evening? And is it going to lift the saggy eyelids or is it an alternative way if you cant find the tape?
Lori
It doesn’t smell at all for me.
Sally Ann
yes i just tried it and it worked for me !! thank u for sharing 🙂
Lori
Yay! So glad it worked for you!

This is interesting! I will try it as well. Probably need to use it on my entire body. LOL!!
Wondering though – there is a dried egg white product on the market: one from King Arthur Flour Co. Wonder if that would work by taking just a bit out and adding water to it. If I EVER get egg white powder, I will try it.
Lori
That might work! Let us know if you give it a try.
Rosemary Jean
Hi again Lori,
Thank you for your reply but I need to know if the gelatinous part of the egg white should be mixed/whipped up with the rest of the egg white. Thanks again!
Sallyann a
Can you please give me a Gide as to the best place to put the egg white? High on the brow bone or lower just on the eye crease? Many thanks its a great idea x
Lori
I put it in the eye crease.
Michelle
Iv used egg white every day for a week this is brill really does work last all day thanks for the egg white tip x?
Patsy
I have another question do we have to use a new egg for every application or can we use one egg til it finishes as long as we refrigerate it ? also can we use the egg whites sold in a container?
Thanks
Lori
You only need a little drop so you can save the extra egg white in the fridge. I’m not sure how long it is good for though, so to be on the safe side, I don’t keep it more than a few days.
