Make Your Own Magnesium Oil
Over the past year or so I have been pretty much been obsessed with Epsom salts, which are used to boost your magnesium levels. Even though I had come across many posts and comments on magnesium oil, it wasn’t until about three months ago that I started researching what it is and how to make magnesium oil. I know what you’re thinking, where have I been right?, how could I not know about magnesium oil?! Well, after this post, now you will know all about it too!
Why You Need Magnesium
It is estimated that 90% of Americans are deficient in magnesium. Unfortunately, even when eating an optimal diet it is hard to get enough magnesium due to difficulty absorbing the mineral and the minimal amount in our farming soil.
Magnesium is also depleted from our bodies when we are under stress, experience anxiety or have a lack of sleep. Anxiety is one of the reasons why I am always trying to increase my magnesium levels while trying to maintain a good balance.
Between the factors of diet, stress, and those we can’t control such as low levels of magnesium in farming soil, it is easy to see why so many are deficient in this mineral.
A few of the most common symptoms of magnesium deficiency include:
Fatigue
Low Energy
Difficulty Sleeping
PMS and Hormonal Imbalances
Headaches
Anxiety
There are a couple of ways you can increase you magnesium level, you can use Epsom salts, magnesium oil, take a dip in the ocean (the ocean is a great source of magnesium and trace minerals), take a magnesium supplement, increase your intake of magnesium rich foods, or do a combination to make sure you are getting optimal absorption.
Using trans-dermal magnesium (applied to your skin) is the most effective way to boost your magnesium level and ensure absorption, such as using magnesium oil or Epsom salts.
Magnesium Oil Vs. Epsom Salts
Epsom salts, which are magnesium sulfate is most commonly added to baths and significantly increases your level of magnesium. Magnesium Oil is actually magnesium chloride, it is a different form of magnesium which has been noted to be more easily absorbed. The funny thing is, it actually isn’t an oil at all! It is just a mixture of magnesium flakes and water. Magnesium Oil has been said to be even more readily absorbed than Epsom salts.
Why You Should Make Your Own Magnesium Oil
Magnesium oil can be quite expensive, making your own magnesium oil will help cut back the cost. Also, another very important benefit of making your own magnesium oil is that you can adjust how potent you make the mixture. You can do this by adjusting the amount of magnesium flakes in your mixture for magnesium oil. When you are first starting out you may want to start with ¼ of magnesium flakes and see how your body responds to the magnesium oil and adjust the amount until you find the right one for you.
How to Make Magnesium Oil
-What You Need
-1/2 cup of Magnesium Flakes
-1/2 cup of Water
-Jar or Spray Bottle to Store the Mixture
-Magnesium Oil Directions
- Heat up ½ cup of water (not to the point of boiling)
- Pour the water over ½ cup of magnesium flakes
- Stir the mixture until the magnesium flakes are dissolved.
- Let the mixture cool and store in a spray bottle or jar
- You can apply the mixture to your skin after it has cooled enough to a comfortable temperature. You can also store the magnesium oil for future use
*Many use the magnesium oil several times per day, using anywhere from 10 to 20 sprays spaced throughout.
*For optimal absorption spray/apply the magnesium oil to your stomach area and arms and legs.
*If you find that the application of magnesium oil tingles or stings, you can dilute the mixture by adding more water.
How Magnesium Oil Has Worked for Me
My results with magnesium oil have been absolutely amazing, which is why I couldn’t wait to share this post with you! I use the magnesium oil daily, since I’m not a huge fan of using plastic spray bottles, I keep my magnesium oil stored in a jar and use a small cloth to apply it to my skin. After starting to use magnesium oil, I have noticed a huge improvement, well actually, many improvements, I have less difficulty sleeping and my anxiety/nervousness is almost non-existent! Since I was using Epsom salts for almost a year and my results were not quite as stellar, as many have noted, the magnesium oil can provide more benefits as it can be more easily absorbed. Not to say that Epsom salts are not effective, they are absolutely helpful and I continue to use them at least once a week.
Do you use magnesium oil or Epsom salts? Have you seen any improvements from using magnesium oil?
Amazing article, cant wait to try this. One question – can the magnesium oil be sprayed anywhere on the body? Can it also be sprayed on the face or should one keep away from the face?
Thanks! I apply it pretty much all over except my face (usually my legs, arms and stomach). I have acne prone skin, so I am extra careful with what I apply to my face. I haven’t heard of anyone using it on their face yet, though.
I have horrible leg cramps that wake me up at night so I’d like to try this recipe. I looked on Amazon for Magnesium Flakes. Do I want the Magnesium Chloride? And just buy the least expensive brand?
Also, I had read that too much magnesium can affect your heart. I’m thinking that it’s not a problem since you are applying it topically?
Yes, it can, just like too much calcium can w/out the proper balance of magnesium as can not enough magnesium. I tried a supplement w/calcium, magnesium, zinc, & one other things (I forget what it was right now) & after the 1st dose I had palpitations. I thought I had to be wrong & that it couldn’t be from the supplement. WRONG! I realized that it was caused by the calcium being double the magnesium & that it should be the other way around (double magnesium to calcium) because most of us already get plenty of calcium, so having double the magnesium can be very detrimental.
When you use the magnesium oil topically it is said that your body will only take what it needs, so keeping that in mind, I would think you are correct in that overdosing shouldn’t be an issue. I’d still use caution & watch for any symptoms of using too much, because as with anything, our body’s needs can change day to day (even hour by hour sometimes) so what may be a good thing today may need to be upped or lowered tomorrow depending upon what is going on in our bodies & lives at that time.
I think any brand should work just fine as long as they’re aren’t any added ingredients. I’m not aware of it affecting the heart negatively, but I would check with your doctor first. I have read articles about it helping some conditions such as Afib.
Lori …. You saw articles about it helping AFib? I have SVTackycardia palpitations. On Inderal but due to wonderful changes happening to me after seeing natural doctor for thyroid, diet , lifestyle changes , my heart Doctor says I may not need it anymore. In future may taper off per Doctors. Like hearing these articles about natural remedies. Didn’t know you could topically apply Magnesium! I’m in dental for many years… Muscles in shoulders and lower ache. Sounds like flakes would be helpful! Glad I saw all your posts!! Thank you!!
Can I use the liquid magnesium chloride that is found in Walmart by diluting it with water?
I think most of those have added ingredients, like added sugar. It would be best to just use the flakes that way you know you’re not absorbing any harmful ingredients.
Hi, I just got some magnesium flakes to make up some oil and the say they are pure natural but they aren’t white, they are an orange colour – are these ok to use? Why would they be orange? Thanks
I’ve never seen them orange, they are always bright white. Maybe check to see if they added any ingredients? I would ask the store as well to be sure.
Is it safe to use this on children (ages 5 and 7)? If so, how much would you recommend daily?
It is safe to use with children. We use it in a spray bottle and apply it nightly to legs, stomach, etc.
Hi I was wondering if instead of water could you use coconut oil or castor oil. If that works it will be a moisturizer as well
I wouldn’t because it seems to me that using something of thicker consistency would alter the concentration of it, but maybe that’s just me?? I have seen magnesium lotion & would love to make some of that, but I am concerned about knowing how much mag oil I’d actually be getting, so I am not going to risk it. I am pregnant right now, so I am not willing to just tinker around with the dosing, but for someone who isn’t it probably wouldn’t be an issue :). Be sure to come back & let us know if you try it :)!
I don’t think the magnesium flakes will dissolve in anything but water.
Can I store my magnesium oil in a cobalt glass spray bottle? I’m new but I know sometime different storage containers react and change oils.
Hi Sarah, I’m not aware of any interactions; however, I’m too familiar with cobalt glass. Hopefully someone else will be able to comment on this. 🙂
Suggestions on water type that is best? I was thinking distilled water. Any thoughts???
I use filtered water, but you can also use distilled.
Can magnesium oil be made from magnesium chloride crystals or are the flakes required. The only difference I can imagine is the flakes dissolving into solution at a much more efficient rate.
As you mentioned, I think it’s just a difference of size and shape.
Can I just add magnesium flakes to bath water? Or do I need to premix it with 1/2 water and 1/2 flakes. Can I put epsom salt in the bath as well? Can you ingest it or is that a no no?
Sorry, kinda new to this.
Thanks
Absolutely, I add them to my bath all the time! I don’t believe it can be ingested.
I LOVE my magnesium flakes. Slightly obsessed! I started out by making magnesium oil, but I didn’t feel like I was experiencing any benefits from it. I also didn’t like the way it left my skin feeling. I was too afraid to bathe in it, since the oil was very stingy. But I gave in and made a bath with it one day, and never looked back! Any time I feel bad or sore or anything I make sure to soak with it in the bath. I add a decent amount to the water and it just makes me feel so great, and doesn’t leave a weird residue on my skin.
I love it too 🙂
Intriguing! I battle with wicked migraines and take Magnesium daily. I’m going to give this a try! When you say, “see how your body responds” are you referring to skin reaction? or something else? It took me a while to find a magnesium tablet that didn’t, well, um… liquify me. Ew. So I want to know what to look out for. Glad I found your site! I’m in the process of eliminating all the external triggers now that I’ve purified my diet. Can’t wait to read more!
Lori, concerning magnesium supplementation, it is good to know which kind to take. I was oblivious to the different kinds for a long time, all the while trying to find the cause of what looked like IBS — until I learned that magnesium oxide causes loose bowels. I switched to magnesium citrate which worked fine, but now use a time released formula recommended by my nutrition counselor called Jigsaw. It’s a little pricey but may be an answer for individuals who can’t stand the mag oil or other mag products. To put an end to migraines, you might want to search the web pages of GreenMedInfo(dot)com or Mercola(dot)com. Lots of good info on how to return to good health…. Be Blessed!
My nutritionist recommended magnesium glycinate tablets. It is the most absorbable form of oral magnesium supplement & does not cause loose stools. I take 400-600 mg (4-6 tablets) a little while before bedtime. It solved my sleep issues & leg cramps. I’m menopausal & for several years experienced some nights every week where I’d fall asleep only to awaken hours before I intended, other night where I’d lie awake until the not-so wee hours of the morning before falling asleep, & at least 1-2 times a month I got no sleep at all. Magnesium glycinate – sleep problem solved & the side benefit was I no longer woke up to muscle cramps in my legs, which also happened often. The magnesium oil sounds very interesting & I may try this recipe.
Being applied topically, this will help avoid loose bowels which the supplement can cause. I have received one or two comments about the magnesium oil causing itching, so I would start of using a small amount and then gradually increase, to see how your body responds.
Hi Lori,
My local health food store did not carry Magnesium Flakes but they had Magnesium Prills; very small stone-like pebbles. Any info on this product? Will it work the same as flakes? Thx.
I am not sure if the pebbles will work the same (I have actually never heard of or seen them), but I am going to try these flakes when I am out of the already made mag oil:
I have their already made mag oil & it works well, so I want to try their flakes too. If you sign up for deals they will email you coupon codes… you can also get a referral code from someone (a friend referred me to Swanson & we both got a $10 code for the referral… I can email you one if you’d like… no pressure or spam, just offering 😉 – if so, my email is: allthingsmineandyours at gmail dot com (add in the @ sign & .com)… if that is not okay to say, please delete that part of my post :).
I’m not sure if they would work the same, I’m not familiar with them and can’t seem to find much information online. If you can’t find the flakes locally, you can get them online. My local health food store doesn’t have them either so I get mine from Amazon.
Great info — thanks! Regarding epsom salts (magnesium sulfate), I add 1 – 2 cups of that to my bath water after a strenuous day working in the garden, and I do not have the sore muscle pain the next day. Another benefit of the epsom salts is that it detoxes your body…. and who today does NOT need to do that frequently?! Begin with soaking 15-20 minutes in the warmest bathtub you can stand (it helps to open the pores so the magnesium sulfate is more easily absorbed).
Thanks for sharing! Glad to hear it has made a great difference.
FABULOUS post! My BFF just told me about mag oil recently & I ordered it last night. I had no idea I could make it & that will be my next task after I see how my body reacts to using the purchased oil. It blows my mind that you don’t use any oil to make it, but am assuming the flakes contain the oil & the heat/water draws it out?! TY for the AWESOME post!!
Thanks! That’s right, the flakes melt in the warm water and there you have it ‘magnesium oil’. I love how simple it is to make!
I’ve been using homemade magnesium oil for about a week and have noticed a major difference… i do have one question though, is it possible to overdose on magnesium oil? I’ve only been using 2 sprays a day out of fear… and just those 2 sprays really have had a big impact!
I use quite a bit of magnesium oil and have never used too much yet. I have read that when too much magnesium is used the first sign would be diarrhea and use that as a judgement tool for myself -> http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJM199104113241502
I’m not sure that you would get diarrhea from magnesium oil, since you aren’t ingesting it. It’s very hard to overdose, since we are so deficient in it to begin with. I started using magnesium- epsom salts, in February 2012 when I weaned my 14 year old daughter off epilepsy meds that were causing extreme behavioral issues. I read that an infusion of epsom salts is used to counteract the seizures associated with eclampsia in pregnant women. Thought, maybe it would work for my daughter’s seizures. We used a good tablespoon of Epsom salts (ground fine with a coffee grinder) and mixed into orange juice. It’s really hard to get down otherwise! Later, I learned about magnesium oil and we now use that exclusively, twice a day, or as needed, should she show signs of a seizure. We also have to be on guard against excitotoxins in food, like MSG and all it’s derivatives, and artificial sweeteners, which she never had anyway. We just had to become educated about the many names which the food industry uses to hide MSG. Magnesium saved my daughter from some really nasty side effects of epilepsy meds. Of course, the doctors didn’t like it, but I’m happy to have her back!
So glad to hear this news.
What an amazing story of how you helped your daughter! I have believed for a long time that magnesium deficiency is the cause of, or is associated with, possibly all medical conditions/deseases. I know, it’s a big statement but I feel like I’ve been shown proof of it. My family & I have eaten a 100pc unprocessed additive free diet high in natural magnesium for 6 yrs now & as it takes some work to get enough from diet alone we have by now experienced many, I think 20, different conditions that went away easily with increased magnesium. It’s good to know that magnesium doesn’t store in the body & needs to be replenished every day. Incase anyone is intetested here’s a list of my families ailments that disappeared with extra unsynthetic magnesium:
Asthma – my 11 yr old son uses no inhalers but drinks a coffee (unfermented- 95pc of worlds coffee is fermented) naturally high in magnesium. Inhalers contain synthetic magnesium so what we use makes sense. (we all drink this)
Coughs, colds, flu
Heart arythmia – Dr told me to stop drinking coffee but I decided I needed more & I don’t get heart arythmia now. (but my Dr gets it!)
Night terrors
Ear infections
Eczema
Tremors
Sleep apnea
Child bedwetting
Muscle cramps
Panic attacks
PMS – 100pc pain free
Migraine
Headaches
Indigestion
Tiredness
Irritability/moodiness
Puberty- my eldest son knows puberty requires him to need more magnesium.
Stress..
.. Anyway, thanks for your post. I hope I didn’t go too off topic. Magnesium oil is a great idea & I will use dead sea salt to make ours.
F.S
I want to try making this but I’m wondering if I can add some essential oils to make it a fragrant after shower spray. Is there any concern with the EO reacting with the mag? Thanks for your advice!
Hi Tanya, not that I’m aware of. I know many add both essential oils and magnesium mixed in their bath.
I personally would not add anything to it. I have read so much conflicting info about EOs, that I would not use them unless I needed them for a specific cause or I was making something that I needed them as part of what I was making (ex lavender sugar scrub, I’d obviously need lavender). I know EOs are fabulous for so many things, but I think it is a good idea not to overuse them, like anything. Also, since the skin is the largest organ of the body & what goes on our skin goes right into our bloodstream (absorption rates vary based upon what area of skin something is applied to), I’d rather my body be absorbing just the magnesium rather than EOs too. Just my 2 cents, FWIW.
Thankyou for this information. I have started using the magnesium chloride on my legs and arms, however, I do find it stings a lot and turns my skin red. I do not shave my legs so that is not the cause. I use 1/2 cup of flakes to 1/2 a cup of water and am wondering if this solution is a bit too strong.
I have read that it may be due to needing to adjust to the magnesium and to start out with using a lower amount of magnesium in the ratio.
I have a bag of Bokek Dead Sea Salts from Saltworks.com, which contains magnesium, potassium and calcium chlorides. I’m wondering if this would work as well as just plain magnesium flakes.
Does it say how much of each is in the salts? I’m not sure how it would compare to magnesium flakes, is the magnesium – magnesium chloride?
I don’t know the ratio, but I think I will contact the saltworks website and try to find out.
Would you use this oil on a child with leg cramps?
I just found them on amazon, ordered something else I needed and got it shipped for free.
Awesome! They usually have great prices too.
I purchased magnesium chloride flakes from Amazon for 7 bucks plus free shipping,I’m extremely deficient in magnesium and been taking 500mg of magnesium oxide, which I read isn’t absorbed well in our bodies,I can’t wait to start using this..also many ppl that need magnesium also are low in vit d..I’m prescribed 10,000iu a week of vit d.. and if you research you need both magnesium and vitamin d both to work correctly..hope this info helps someone..
Be VERY careful taking that much D3, especially depending upon if you are in summer where you live & the sun is strong enough to supply your D3. 2 of my siblings & I all experienced weird symptoms from lots of D3. We were all taking different brands & different doses too…. & we range from 9-15 years apart… then we had the issues we were in our 20s & 30s. My sister felt as though she had a horrible flu & was weak all over for a long time (I believe she said it had been a month -6 weeks)… she ached terribly & I asked if she was taking D3 (she was), how much, etc… advised her to stop immediately. After a few days of stopping the d3 her symptoms finally started to improve.
It took about 6 weeks for our symptoms improve 100% once we stopped the D3, though we did all notice improvement after a few days & marked improvements as the weeks went on… it took a while. I thought it was due to me being pregnant at the time & wacky hormones, but it just kept getting worse as time went on.
There was an article by Dr Mercola about needing K2 MK-7 when taking D3 or else the D3 can cause major issues, like heart issues, calcification, arthritic symptoms, etc. Any time we take one specific nutrient, etc. we can throw off everything else. I am taking a good multi & supplementing here & there as needed w/specific things, but I am careful not to use any one thing for long now. That was scary!
I was prescribed it by my doctor, the 2000iu a day of vit d..and I.switched to slo mag yesterday as mag oxide was just a laxative..I’m extremely deficient in both,I’m hoping this helps,I just got my magnesium chloride flakes yesterday,I got them on Amazon and the package just said mag chloride..I went to their website and it states it’s pure but it’s used for fertilizer? Is this the same thing that everyone is talking about? Just pure magnesium chloride flakes right? I did email them, waiting on a response..
It sounds like the right stuff… I haven’t yet gotten flakes as I decided to try the oil 1st before buying a huge jug of flakes (sounds as though they have smaller containers of them too though, which I didn’t know when I ordered my oil spray).
That is great that your doc knows about D3, though I will add that many are still uninformed about the necessity of k2 w/the D3. You may want to read up on it just so you can watch for D3 toxicity symptoms, though in taking 2K MG I’d think you’d be fine. Especially since you have lupus & could react differently it would be good to know ahead of time what to look out for rather than after, IMO.
I was taking 5k-10K per day… which my doctor strongly suggested & he even said to keep my levels in the 120s, which I then knew for certain mine were way too high once I got my 25OHD levels back. I started taking it again, though at a much lower dose, & I started having arthritic symptoms in my hands. So I stopped & am only taking what is in my prenatal & I am going in the sun here & there.
Please let us all know what the company says about the flakes.
I got rid of all arthritis by drinking a shot of green juice 5 mornings per week for about 6 months, now I just do a maintenance dose of 2 per week. It also fixed my “over stretched tenants” as I roll my feet in. They were very stiff and sore Nd doctor said I needed orthods and tends ts were over stretched. BUT I don’t wear orthotics and it’s been years since I’ve had a problem now. Give it a try.
Yes ma’am, magnesium is awesome in the garden. You see, it is a natural mineral in the soil, but with the major farming practices to “feed the world” it is depleted from the dirt. So our produce is also depleted from the once abundant minerals that the plants need (and we need). Many old remedies for soil amendments include good ol’ Epsom salts (magnesium ) which was a staple in every household back in the good ol’ days. Don’t be afraid of it being advertised as fertilizer. You’re not going to eat the stuff anyway. But if you want to be certain, look for “food grade” or quality, then it should be ensured to be edible.
I also have lupus so I can’t go out in the sun at all ! My vit d level was a 15..supposed to be 30 to 100, I.have every symptom of magnesium deficiency in the book..I.hope this oil and supplements help me asap..
That sure does pose an extra challenge. Do you get the sun induced rashes many w/lupus tend to get??
Maybe the mag oil & D3 will help w/the lupus?!
It is crazy what magnesium regulates! I have found so many issues I have experienced can all be tied to it, as well as adrenal fatigue.
I’ve been told to use mag oil especially now that I am pregnant & how it will help my 24/7 nausea… I was using it & I didn’t notice a difference but kept using it. I forgot about it for a few weeks because someone put it away in a cabinet & the old adage “out of sight out of mind…” … during the time I wasn’t using it my 24/7 hyperemesis got a tad better in that I was still super nauseous but I could walk around w/out gagging & needing a bucket the whole time. Then I went back to it when I remembered & I had the super extreme hyperemesis return again, so I stopped it. I am not sure if the magnesium caused or contributed to it, but I decided I was going to take a break. I did feel the slight improvement again after stopping, so I haven’t tried it again.
I am feeling pretty sick again 24/7 so I am going to try it again & see if it worsens, improves, or stays the same.
I know it works wonders for some people, but not for others even though they are super deficient. Just watch how your body responds closely & don’t dismiss any improvement or decline in your health. I know I slept AMAZINGLY well when I used it… & I miss that, but felt I needed a longer break from it before trying it again.
I hope you find something to help you & that works for you STAT :)!
Wow, that’s nifty – thanks so much for sharing this tip. I have only recently found out about magnesium oil and have found it very beneficial to prevent cramps in my lower legs. Knowing that I can make some myself is really cool!
Per doctor’s orders I take 500mg of magnesium supplement a day. Could/would this oil replace that?
I have read that 8 sprays of magnesium oil is equal to about 100 mg of magnesium, but there may be variation in this amount. It would be best to speak with your doctor or naturopath and see what they would recommend.
I use swansonvitamins.com for my magnesium oil it’s about $40.00 for a 64oz bottle I use 2-3 capfulls for a footbath which is about 2 Tbl I also use it in my mud formula for earthingrocks. along with magnetic clay. It’s wonderful stuff for pain and great energy, I have had reports that it helps to lower blood pressure too! I think it may be overkill to use 1/2 cup mag flakes in a footbath or 2 cups in a regular bath and very expensive.
Could you please explain why do we need to heat up the water?
Heating up the water helps the magnesium flakes to dissolve, I’m not sure if they would dissolve as well in cold water.
Yea you can use room temperature water and stir it until it dissolves
Ive been using mag oil for deodorant and body spray for about 2 years. It stings after shaving but is worth the pain. Best deodorant Ive ever used.
Forgot to mention I make my own too. Much cheaper!
I never thought of using it for a deodorant! Thanks for sharing.
What a fantastic and informative post! I take a liquid supplement which includes magneisum in it with trace minerals, but have never attempted making my own magnesium oil or even knew you could. Thanks again for this great recipe!
Hi Lori, I have made my own mag oil and have it in a glass spray bottle. I find it hard to spray even dilluted. It burns so bad especially on the legs. Also, it made me itch. I started spraying it on my feet and putting socks on but stopped that, it does not melt in to the skin for a while so I feel it under my feet. I have stopped that too. I will try again under my feet but when summer comes I don’t wear socks.
Do you think making enough for a foot soak (Iv’e done that before with already mixed mag oil) Is is still cost effective?
Thanks so much,
Yoli
Glass spray bottle, awesome! I make foot baths with magnesium oil too! When I do I use only 1/4 cup of magnesium flakes and a little more water. I’m not sure how cost effective it is, the concentration isn’t as high but I figure maybe it is reaching a wider area and after keeping my feet in it for at least 30 minutes hopefully more is absorbed. Is it only itching when applied to legs? Could it possibly be due to shaving your legs before applying?
I wash off the spray after a half hour.
Like Lori Kirk, a friend of mine washes the bottoms of her feet after the magnesium soaks in for 1/2 an hour to relieve the burning.
Hi Yoli,
I am wondering what type of spay bottle & spray pump nozzle you used? My Mom had bought some pre mixed/pre made mag. oil when it comes out it’s like a “hair spray type mist ” that burned the crap out of my skin the first & ONLY time I used it. But I had been having some serious skin issues when I used it because I hoped it might help. Later I went to my dermatologist & found out that I was dealing with severe eczema & also have skin allergies that caused hives all over the top of my hands to my elbows then the top of my feet to my knees. (NOT CAUSED BY THE MAGN. OIL but it certainly did NOT help) . So if you deal with ECZEMA, DERMATITIS, ALLERGIES THAT CAUSE ITCHY HIVES ON YOU SKIN or ANY SKIN ISSUES THIS MAY NOT BE THE BEST IDEA TO USE AS A SPRAY FOR YOUR SKIN. TAKE MAG. SUPPLEMENTS OR ONE OF THE OTHER OPTIONS SHE MENTIONED AT THE BEGINNING OF HER ARTICLE. TRUST ME WHEN I TELL YOU IT BURNS & IT TOOK AWHILE TO WASH OFF & THE BURNING SENSATION TO STOP.
Actually it’s good got it and the pain goes away – it’s like when I have a cut and use the oil –
You just have to
1) use it enough (tingle /sting /itch = deficiency )
2) train the mind its healing until your levels are up
Thanks for the post. Where can you find magnesium flakes? I did not know that was even possible! The oil is really expensive, we go through it quicker since my husband is trying to remember to use it as well 🙂
You can find it at your local health food store, or online. It was a little more expensive at my health food store so I usually get mine online.
I suggest using distilled water to make your oil, NOT tap water
Where so you get the magnesium flakes plz ? 🙂
I use the magnesium flakes from radiate life. You can check your local health food store, the ones I found locally were around 13.00 instead of around 9.00, but also have to figure in the shipping cost.
How long does the magnesium oil last…meaning effectiveness wise. I had made some a while back for my daughter to use, but she never did…so is it good or should I just make a new batch?
It should still be good.
Thank you for this post, Lori! I just made my first batch of homemade magnesium oil. It’s stored in a clear glass spray bottle but it’s undarkened. Does the glass have to be dark like essential oils? Will the effectiveness lose its potency in a completely clear bottle?
It doesn’t have to be in a dark bottle. I keep mine in a glass bottle.
So i plan to make a pain salve that asks for pure magnesium oil….would this recipe be the correct ratio for pure mag. Oil?
Yes, this is the recipe for making magnesium oil.
Amazon
has anyone used the flakes and the oil form and got better result out of one over the other ?
I got mine from amazon
I buy mine from Amazon.com
